The use of hot stones dates back 5,000 years in India, as part of the Ayervedic medicine. Native American healers from Arizona would gather rocks from rivers and warm them in hot coals, wrapping them in cloth and putting them on the body. This leads the relaxation process relieving muscle pain and discomfort. Stones are placed on key points of the body. This allows deep direct heat which will relax the muscles. If there is an injury or a swollen muscle then chilled marble stones would be used. Hot stones expand the blood vessels pushing blood and waste materials through the body. Circulation is increased, arthritis conditions alleviated, back pain reduced, tension and anxiety reduced, and insomnia relieved. Cold stones are the opposite. They cause the blood vessels to constrict. This allows the lymphatic system to remove toxins more efficiently. Cold stones one the face will tone the skin, shrink pores, and reduce flushed areas on the face. An authentic hot stone massage is not simply the "gliding" of heated stones lightly upon the surface of the skin, but rather the stones are used as tools to deliver effective tissue and muscle massage at a pressure level comfortable to the client. The client can request light, medium or deep pressure, which is the beauty of the hot stone massage technique. It can be customized in an instant to the request of the client. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stone_massage For your safety as well as ours please DO NOT BE OFFENDED by the questions they are a "MUST" to ask before given a Stone Massage.
